Last Day Jackson Hole - Ski - Travel to MT

Today is a ski and travel day.  Starting with breakfast, packing and driving up to Jackson Hole.  Being Tuesday and snowy we did not have to get there too early.  Walked up to the base and after getting new pass for Jeff (last one cracked in half?).

We spent the morning skiing in white out conditions and fresh snow 4-6".

Took a break for Irish Coffee and water, then headed back up for few runs.  Skied to the bottom and took the Tram to the top.  Drake skied down and Jeff took the Tram.  Meeting up at the bottom the call was to start our trek to MT.

Stopped at the new Sidewinders (sister location to the Super Bowl spot).  BBQ Hamburger with onion straws and cheese.


After lunch made the 4 hour plus drive to the VRBO in Gallatin, MT.  Up through WY into Idaho, then MT and then Yellowstone and then into MT.  Lots of very great scenery.  A ton a breath taking views along the drive along with what is snowmobile heaven.  There were entire towns dedicated to snowmobile adventures.  We saw riders all over and providers with massive parking lots full of sleds.  Crazy.  Lots of pictures taken, but here are a few to give you a feel.  For example two massive moose just standing in a river.








We arrived in Gallatin, MT at sundown and found our base camp.  From the outside area a little unsure, but once inside, so impressed.  Of course Jeff thought he downloaded the instructions to get inside, but had to scramble to find.  Thank goodness we had cell coverage in Gallatin Gateway.



We spent the night relaxing with our skiing videos and watching Tucker Carlsen's Putin interview on X.  Interesting to here what Putin had to say about events.  I recommend watching just for the education on the man himself.  Tomorrow Big Sky.

Travel Day - Taos to Cortez

Good night sleep!!  A partly cloudy day ahead for our Travel Day to Cortez, CO where we plan to base for Telluride.  After a quick discussion we opted to skip the morning ski option for the ability to do some scenic driving.  A couple of observations a out Taos.  Very rustic and in many ways like a border town on the mexican side.  The economy must be tough.  The Hampton was ok, but really run down.  Would not stay there again.  Maybe by the mountain as some newer places were available. Why Cortez you may ask for this next leg of the trip.  The cost to stay local in Telluride was over the top so opted to suffer the extra drive time each day.  The plan is after or second day of skiing we will head to Grand Junction instead of Cortez.  The next travel day is to Salt Lake City to meet up with the family members joining us. Brighton Day 2

The remaining crew decided to go to Brighton again as the Cottonwood pass to Alta and Snowbird is closed until at least 8:30 for avalanche control.  Goal is to ski Snowbird Friday as last day. Before we left Parker joined us for Breakfast. Janie took Parker to meet up for lunch with an x-customer from her days working at Hanna Steel.  Also, shopping and a nap together. Sarah is off later this morning to get a massage and facial. The skiing crew headed out at 8:00 a.m. and when we were 3.5 miles from the turn to Little Cottonwood pass we saw cars lined up waiting for the road to open.  As we got closer to the turn we saw another road with cars parked.  When we made the turn there were more cars lined up. We had clear sailing until we started up the pass.  It added about an hour to the drive and we were close to the lot being full. Travel to Salt Lake City

Today is a travel day from Grand Junction to Salt Lake City (Draper) where our VRBO is located.  Drake drove and the first pit stop before the drive was McDonald, Starbucks and the. Phillips 66 to top off the tank.  The pit chief was pleased with the turn around time! Like so many of the legs so far the views along the route are just so hard to describe.  Plateaus, desert, and cloud clear down to the ground.  The first fog bank was fun to see and quick drive through.  The second bank down the road had us slow down and was with us for 15 mins. The drive was 3.5 hours and our arrival was timed to meet the early travelers for brunch.  The early fliers had a successful flight and Parker is rumored to have done great with her own seat.
