Telluride

After a few more Fifty Ski videos it was time for night night time around 10 p.m.  4:45 both of us stirred and started the day.  We have an 1 hour plus trip to Telluride, so planning to leave at 7:00 a.m. with the slopes opening at 9:00 a.m.

At 6:00 a.m. another Hampton Breakfast.  Western Omelets and Sausage with  up of coffee and Gatorade.  Added a waffle and Drake his morning bagel.

6:40 a.m. departure trip to Telluride was good with cloudy conditions.  About 15 degrees colder than Taos, but not bad in the 30s at the base.  Tomorrow an earlier start as snow coming in early Friday am.

We parked in the free lot next to lift and had a short wait to start the day.  Downtown Telluride is like so many ski towns, but like Ouray tucked into the back of a valley with awesome views.

Skiing conditions were good and with snow coming going to get better.  The Mountain is the most beautiful we've ever seen.  Telluride is a big mountain with easy traversing.  No lift lines but a lot more people than Taos. 

Drake was a great guide in keeping us on track.  We leveraged the big maps a lot being first visit.

Jeff fell twice on the same run when his right ski popped off.  Once before and one after lunch.  Double blue aka small black.  Both times a struggle to get skis back on.  The second time Jeff slid a long ways from ski until another skier slowly pushed the ski down.

Lunch was a couple of chairs and table with second half of our wraps from yesterday.  Just majestic.

More afternoon sking starting with lift to the top.

Along the See Foreever run there is a house on a rock looking over all this area.  Tempter house where $7,500 a night for up to 4 people.  12k altitude.   Hell of a venue to host a wine party.  The Alpino Vino Restaurant across the trail caters for guests and events.  Reservations only to stop and have a meal.  Sorry didnt stop to get a pic.

Every time on the lift we talked about how pretty the overall views at every turn. We covered the whole mountain twice and at 2 stated trek down from the top.  Big mountains have long vertical routes back to parking lot and we were not disappointed.  Departure at 3 for the 1 hour 20 minute drive to Cortez.  Drake did the drive again and it was ki e to view everything without focusing on the road.

We stopped at the TMobile store by our hotel so Jeff could replace his ear buds with a promo virtual card.  Suffice it to say not so fast.  Very long story, but between TMO card, Google Pay, Google Wallet and settling on Southwest Visa Jeff walked out with his new earbuds. Will have to figure out the promo thing later as not an easy experience. 

After showers we heaeded downtown for dinner.  We made a return to to The Farm as we really enjoyed and non fried food seemed in order.  Drake had Chicken Fried Steak and Jeff the Morroccon Meatballs.  Of course could not avoid a spill count event.  Jeff knock over his glass of water and thank goodness Drake jumped on taking a pic.

Back to the room for calls home and more ski videos.  9:45 and we both turned in.

Night night time and early start with snowy driving conditions expected.

Utah - Deer Valley

First up in the am (5:45 a.m.) and took this pic from family room at VRBO.  We have a complete view of the valley. A little later Logan captured more of the early sunrise effect. The plans are to ski Deer Valley with the entire crew today.  Unfortunately Sarah being pregnant and Parker not yet old enough for the mountains is not skiing this trip. Everyone was up and ready to go pretty much on time.  The Indy Clan headed out first (before 7:00 a.m.) as they needed to get Christa's ski rentals.  The KC crew left about 7:15 to head up the mountain.  We stayed in touch to try and coordinate parking, but ended up in two different spots.  David parked below the central lodge entrance and Jeff parked at the Gondola Parking.  Both worked out great being free and relatively easy.  The Indy crew had a bit of a hike and the KC clan had a long line for the gondola. Jackson Hole Day 1 - Super Bowl

-3 degrees start in Jackson, WY. Brought in gear this morning and warmed up while waking.  Whew, forgot to bring in our gear overnight.  Amazing how long boots stay cold when frozen. Drive up to Jackson Hole Resort was 25 mins and parked up close for $35.  Free parking off mountain just seemed to be a little more than difficult.  Getting there early we hung out in the car for a bit.  Despite web site saying 9:00 a.m. start, the lifts and gondolas opened at 8:30 a.m.   Skiing at Jackson Hole is basically very long hard blue or black runs.  More on the black side.  While pretty much a groomer hill, it was quite the challenge.  The  Corbet's Couloir  was not open due to lack of cover.  Just not enough snow the past several weeks.  View of the entire Jackson valley was so hard to capture in a picture.  Warmed up a bit, but a cold a.m. with the haze clearing for a blue bird day. No lunch but resting break at lodge....

Telluride Day 2 - Travel to Grand Junction

Jeff woke at 4:15 mostly due to glogged nose, but also anxious about weather and drive.  The Hampton lobby made for a good hangout until 6 am breakfast bell. The trek to Telluride was wet, and the snow packed as expected. During bearly morning Jeff found the Telluride app, which like Epic or IKON will track you skiing.  While you can ski up to 7 days on the Epic Pass, the mountain is not a Vail Property, so for future make sure app is loaded and physical pass in hand.  The new Epic Phone based pass did not work.  Of course by the time we started skiing forgot to start the app. It snowed all day with heaviest coming at the end.  Drake made the call to ski down to the Village to have lunch and save our sandwiches for dinner.  We e joyed sitting at the outside bar and chatting with some guys from MI.  Wings and Fries with beer and fireball shots.
