Salt Lake City - Alta

Jeff was first up followed by Garrett and then David.  Windy last night and the weather shows snowing up in the mountains.  Should be an interesting day as first visit to Alta and limited parking, etc.  We successfully left before 7 and had the pick of parking!!  Rain and wind as we departed with transition to snow a few miles out.  Snowing on arrival and off and on all day.

Starting mileage update.

Vista from parking lot.

Car waiting

1 hour plus wait as lifts open at 9:15 and Ticket office 8:15.  We all did bathroom breaks and Christa picked up her ticket.  Drake and I toured th ski shop to scope out end of day goodies.

The mountain has a low area with greens and blues.  The rest is black, expert with some blues mixed in.  Local gentleman said snow all week in the mountains.  Also not worth going to Solitude.  Brighton ok which is plan for tomorrow.

The snow and wind were constant all day.  When we started getting ready the avalanche booms went off.  Like fireworks right above our heads.  We learned later in the day the one half of mountain was closed due to avalanche risk.  Up the wind was tough and the snow many times was like sleet.  While not bitter cold the wind and snow made it a requirement to have face cover.  Not a big slope picture day.

At lunch we all connected mid mountain for lunch.  Jeff's hairstyle was the hot topic.

Then Garrett and Christa headed down mountain.   The rest of the crew headed up for several runs.

Drake, Jeff and Katelyn head down after two runs to find Garrett and Christa.  No luck so back up to mid mountain and did a tree run.  At the bottom Katelyn took a bio break and Drake and Jeff did another run.  That was it for Jeff so took skis to car, grabbed shoes and headed to ski shop.  After sticker and choolate dog stuffed animal purchase headed to grab a beer.  That is when we realized we had ditched Katelyn.  Thank goodness David and Logan found her and did some runs together.

Jeff and Drake found Christa and Garrett and hung out until the rest joined for a close out beer.  David took the brunt of jabs as Garrett racked up brownie points.

While Skiing Parker and Grandma did some shopping.  They found a Chiefs display at Harmons grocery store.

Departure back to the VRBO around 5 and stop at liqour store.  Utah does not sell any alcohol Sundays, except beer.

Hot tub while Logan made dinner.  Taco bowls!!

One view is the traffic mass on Hwy 15.

The KU vs. KSU BB game took up the evening.  A lot to bed early for those not into the game.

Parker struggled to go to bed and was held by dad, uncle Logan and Grandpa.  Parker thought maybe reading would help her fall asleep.  Nope.

Grandpa even fake napping could not get Parker to sleep.

KU VS. KSU went into overtime.  Bed time for the remaining awake after KSU victory.
